Narrative

Our final project for ceramics was to create a visual presentation of a story. I chose to do the children's book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

My sculpture shows how the relationship between the boy and the tree grows throughout the years. It starts with him as a small boy, and then he gets older. The third character shows the man after he had chopped off the branches to make his house, and the 4th figure, shows him as an old man sitting on the stump of the tree after he had cut it down.

Sadly, the glazes that I used did not turn out as I had hoped. Hopefully this summer I will be able to adjust the glazes with enamel or something, and make it look a bit more they way I want it.

The tree is my favorite part, and is about 14 inches high.
